January, 2010

Can you believe it? 2010! It has been almost exactly one year since we left Missouri and headed for Richmond, VA to begin our 9 weeks of Field Personnel Orientation. In the past year, God has taught us so much and we have experienced so many things. In 2010, we hope to reach our final destination...Mokhotlong, in Lesotho, Africa. We continue to pray and wait. The government still has not released the land that the chief has granted us. This month, we have again been promised that our request will be taken before the Mokhotlong District Coun-cil, and that possibly it will be released. Once the 80 acre mountain top is ours and we have the necessary paperwork to prove it, we will begin preparing to relocate. In the meantime, we will continue to travel to Mokhotlong one or two times each month. Here are a few pictures from our most recent trip to "Maruti Mountain."

In the month of December we were blessed with our second group of visitors from the US. Teresa's sister Codi, and our good friend Delinda Marling arrived in JoBurg on December 28th. Once arriv-ing in Lesotho, we began showing them the country to which God has called us and introducing them to the people that we have grown to love.
We continue to work in the villages that are close to Katse Village where we are living. This past month, after over 6 months of Tuesday morning Bible studies, 20 people in the village of Ha Kinini came forward expressing a desire to become Christians. Jimmy will begin meeting with one of the men on Thursday afternoons to teach him how to study the Bible. He is unable to read, but his wife, 'Me Madaphoe can, and we have challenged them to begin read-ing the book of John in the Sesotho New Testament that we recently gave them. One of the women that came forward was 'Me Mathomo/Tolerance. The following Tuesday she removed the sangoma beads from her babies' waists and gave them to us. She said that she no longer needed them..."I now have Jesus!" Please pray for the new Chris-tians of this village. It is not easy to lay aside years of superstition, tradition, and confusion.

Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

We will be returning to Mokhotlong on January 22. Dr. Larry and Sally Pepper will join us with a team from the US. We will be showing the Jesus Film on Maruti Mountain. Pray that God will use this opportunity to make the gospel clear to those who will hear. On the 23rd we will do a mobile medical clinic in the village where we will be moving.

Pray for the man shown in the picture on the front page. Jimmy spent approximately 45 minutes explaining the gospel of Jesus Christ to this man, who is very ill. The man had heard the name of Jesus but had no idea what Jesus could mean to him personally. On the day that we visited with him, he did not accept Christ. Pray that the Holy Spirit makes clear the message and that when we return he will have understanding of the sacrifice of Christ and what that could mean for him eternally. Pray that churches in the US are burdened with a desire to come to Lesotho and help us take the message of Jesus to the mountains!
