"Hey, when are we gonna get a chance to go on the top of Table
Mountain?"
That is what we were all thinking. A trip to Cape Town means a
chance to take the cable car to the top of this flat mountain with a
chance to enjoy the scenic view it affords. Yet, today was Tuesday. We
had arrived in Cape Town on a Saturday. Each day had given us either
clouds or high winds or a combination of both. And when these are the
conditions then the cableway to the top of Table Mountain is closed.
So we filled our time with other sightseeing that we could do. We
visited Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope in the cloudy, windy
weather. We visited Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens while it was cloudy
and windy. And Jordan even scuba dived in the freezing Atlantic while
the weather prevented us from going atop Table Mountain.
Then we got the phone call!! An IMB missionary called us to tell us
that the cableway had just opened if we wanted to try and make it up
that day. So as soon as Jordan finished his last dive we headed to the
cableway station and saw the sign which said "open." Whoopeee, now we
get to pay all that money to get to the top.
Once on top the views were magnificent. We could see down to Cape
Town city and the harbor, across to Robben Island (the prison island
which held Nelson Mandela and others) and beyond. We turned around and
could see the Atlantic Ocean all the way down to Cape Point and then
over to False Bay and towards the Indian Ocean. What a beautiful, clear
day for us to enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
